Teacher Residencies is a co-teaching model that blends classroom mentorships with academic coursework. Teacher residents learn how to teach by working alongside a master teacher in the school district where they will eventually work.

Steps to Apply for a Teacher Residency

Boundless Educator Teacher Residency - Multiple Districts

The Boundless Educator Teacher Residency (BETR) is a community-centered teacher preparation program serving grades TK–8. Hosted by ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½app×îа汾 in partnership with the Panama-Buena Vista Union School District and the Palmdale School District, BETR is dedicated to recruiting, preparing, and retaining diverse educators who are deeply connected to the communities they serve.

Kern Teacher Residency - Greenfield Unified School District

The Kern Teacher Residency is a year-long teacher preparation program (January - December) dedicated to the support and training of teacher candidates (Residents). In partnership with CSU Bakersfield, Residents have the opportunity to complete their credential coursework and clinical practice all within the Greenfield Union School District. Our classes are co-taught by faculty from both CSU Bakersfield and Greenfield, making the content relevant to what is occurring in the classrooms that the residents are placed in.

Bakersfield City School District Teacher Residency

The Education Specialist Teacher Residency-Bakersfield (ESTR-B) seeks excellent elementary
and junior high teachers who will serve as a mentor for participating residents. The
Education Specialist Teacher Residency-Bakersfield is a teacher preparation program
for graduate students seeking to earn their Education Specialist Credential in either
Mild to Moderate Support Needs (MMSN) or Extensive Support Needs (ESN). ESTR-B is
a unique residency program that consists of a partnership between California State
University, Bakersfield and the Bakersfield City School District. Upon proficient
completion of the residency, the highly trained residents will become teachers within
the Bakersfield City School District serving some of the highest need students in
the district through special education programs.

Interview/Admission Process
Two rounds of interviews will be conducted for candidates interested in the program. The first interview is with the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½app×îа汾 Special Education team and determines admission into the Special Education program to pursue a preliminary credential. Candidates who are admitted will then participate in a second interview for the residency program, which includes both Special Education faculty and the partner school district.
Applicants admitted to the Special Education program but not the residency will be placed on the traditional credential pathway. They will receive information on how to schedule an appointment with a program advisor to develop a traditional program plan.
Applicants admitted into the residency pathway will meet with a program advisor to develop their residency program plan. Once the program plan and residency contracts are completed and signed, Amani Hernandez will enroll students in their courses. Students will also receive an email from the program director with their residency orientation date.
